31 August 2009 WHAT BIG NEWS YOU HAVE THERE!

Dear Family,

I can't believe all the big news. I think Aimee said it best when she said... "Isn't it weird to get big news fROm far away?" Weird is about the only way I can describe it. How I'd wish to be home for all the celebration, But I know I'm where I need to be and will be celebrating from here. ;) To get it out of the way first. Congrats Laura and Matt on your engagment! I'm so excited for you!!!! I can't wait for all the pictures. I'm so excited.

Things this week were very trying, but very rewarding. We started the week right on target for our goal for the month 5 baptized and 5 dates and on monday night we got 1 more date called in leaving us expecting 11 for the month, and our goal was at 10. But Satan came knocking as he always does. First off, I went up to Marion IL, for an Exchange leaving Elder Wright to do it all by himself. And while in Marion we experienced some difficulty with a baptism there. To keep the law of chastity the young man moved out of his girlfriends place to a place just outside of the mission boundries. So we couldn't touch him without permission from the Priesthood leaders up in Mt. Vernon IL. So we had to work all that out and make it work.

Then On Thursday I returned and Elder Wright and I worked like CRAZY!!! We had to secure the dates we had left. Well through the course of the week Satan beat 2 candidates for baptism because of the choice of the investigators. We were literally waiting for them at water's edge, and one was set back because of a word of wisdom issue.

But all in all ending with 8 Baptized in Paducah Zone is very good. I'm so proud of my little band of warriors. We fought our hardest and cried to the Lord in mighty prayer. And I know that the work we did was acceptable to him. And now we are already underway for the exciting month of September. On to bigger and better things.

I just want to tell you about how much I love being a Zone Leader. I'm learning so much about priesthood leadership and the Spirit's tutoring me well. I've had to deal with a lot and learn to receive specific revelation and learn to recognize it. Today I had to deal with some disobedience and as I asked the Lord for help, His Spirit directed me on the exact right words to say to work eveything out. It was so amazing.

Now about the wedding. I'm Mad Matt didn't even ask me!!!! just kidding. I'm so excited for Laura. But I won't lie. I'm really sad that I won't be there. I won't be able to enjoy the celebration. I won't even be able to see her live sealing. But most of all I'm sad I won't even get to sing at her wedding. Maybe the President will let me record something and send it for the wedding. That will be my contribution to involve me in the festivities.

Oh, one more thing! My good friend Sam is getting home from his mission. Please take time to go see him and tell him hello from me. And one more thing - I got word of a new CD of the University Singers called, "Cloths of Heaven" that is my year's recording. Could you buy it and send it to me.... Please!!!

I love you all very much and hope all is well back home. I mention you often, if not always in my prayers. I just want you to know that I couldn't be happier... well maybe if I was in two places at once.
Love,
Elder Jonathan David Hansen
